I kill it.

June 29th, 2010

About time for me, really.

It’s been a month since I posted anything- and I don’t know how long since I posted anything that could actually be called worthwhile or meaningful.

I’ve honestly had nothing to say on a publicly viewable blog for some time now – despite having plenty to say on twitter… I’ve just ended up occasionally posting stuff that made me laugh or whatever but not really given much proper attention to this site. There was a time when I had witty or entertaining things to say here… but that time has passed.

So, while it may be my second or third time doing so (previous times I wasn’t sure if it’d be back.. this time I know it won’t), I hereby “officially” kill off niallok.com in it’s blog format. It’ll come back in some other format – probably as some sort of showcase of my radio work or something (as I had originally planned for my .ie site)… I dunno yet.

Thanks for reading.

Here’s something to cheer you up

Latest photoblog entries

My phone can upload to blogspot. Handy. Or at least it would be if the battery wasn’t faulty at the moment (I’m gonna upgrade to an iPhone soon…). Grr. etc.

Anyway, direct from my phone, via my photoblog to your eyes, here’s some of the recent pictures I’ve taken…

Next station Mullingar?.. But I just left Malahide…

Star Wars Day and the LiveIreland crew

May 9th, 2010

Forgot to post this last week… Myself and a few others from the LiveIreland crew (I do a show there on Tuesday evenings, 6-8pm Irish time) marked Star Wars Day (May The Fourth… you know… May The Fourth be with you?… yeah…) by appearing in a JibJab video of the sci-fi classic.

And I got to be Han Solo… ohh yeahhhh…

Meatloaf, too many candles and some gypsy sluts

Love these “literal music videos”… basically they’re funny versions of music videos with the lyrics replaced to cleverly explain what’s going on in the video itself – usually with subtitles. The best known probably has to be the literal version of Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler.

This one in particular, though, had me laughing out loud today:

Yip Yip Aliens like RTÉ Pulse

April 23rd, 2010

Here’s the Yip Yip Aliens from Sesame Street… remember them? Well here they are discovering radio. They flick around the channels, don’t like most of them, settle on RTÉ Pulse (*) and dance around with their jaws going ‘happy happy… boing boing’. HOoRaY!

(*: Not really)

The week ahead

April 19th, 2010

I gave verbal notice in work yesterday – will be giving it in written format soon… gave them loads of time… bit of a weight off now to know I’ll be leaving the bar trade again by the end of May at the latest… \o/

Anyway, I’ve a busy enough week ahead and I have it all planned out… which, I guess, is nice…

Monday (today):
Tuesday:
Wednesday:
Thursday:
Friday:
Saturday:
Sunday:
Assignment work, Football, Beer, Telly
LiveIreland (I present a show from 6 – 8pm)
SMedia Awards 2010 (I’m nominated as “Web Designer of the Year”)
Spirit Radio – doing some work for these nice folks
Assignment work, Drive to Cork
Drive to Cork, BMac Media Radio Workshop, Cork Int’l Airport Hotel
Head home, via i105-107 studios, Athlone

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I’ll likely be doing some stuff for Open FM too. While it may still mean that I won’t have much time for blogging (I’ll let ye know if I win on Wednesday!), it IS nice that, for once, my week is more-or-less dominated by radio stuff…

Nominated

March 29th, 2010

I’ve been nominated & shortlisted for an award… “Web Designer of The Year” at the 10th annual Student Media (SMedia) Awards.

This means that I get to dress up in smart and spiffy clothes and go to a fancy awards night shindig in the Mansion House, meet some genuinely talented people, have a few beers, hear my name announced as a nominee… and go home empty handed but happy… just like I did last year. Yes, that’s right – I’m not expecting to win. Don’t get me wrong… I’d be delighted to win of course!… I’m just not expecting to.

Last year I was nominated in the same category for the Switch FM web site (which was at switchfm.ie but is now archived here) – this year it’s for the Emerald Radio site, which, along with the radio station itself, I was very happy with overall. The photos, the interaction and in particular the podcasts – it’s all been great!

I’m only one of many nominees from Ballyfermot College of Further Education – a college with a really strong media reputation, and who usually have a good showing in the awards. The college actually completely dominates the Best Animation category for example, being guaranteed to take the award, having gotten every single nomination.

We’ll see, eh?

It goes WEEEIP!… AHHHHH!
