In a world - without Don LaFontaine
September 3rd, 2008

“The Voice” has been silenced. Don LaFontaine died on Monday from “complications from pneumothorax, a collapsed lung that causes air to build in the pleural cavity” (youch!).

Don’s name is known by pretty much everyone in the media business - be they presenters, producers voice-over artists, whatever - he’s done 30+ years of voice-over work in the entertainment industry and has been the official voice of Paramount Pictures - one of the most recognisable voices in the business, along with literally thousands of trailers and ads - and he was best known, probably, for his trademark baritone intro “In a world…”

Still don’t know who he is? Watch this:

R.I.P. Don.

Here’s my ‘attempt’ at a short tribute (including “In a world…”, “One man…”, and “Now!…”):

*ahem*

Google enter browser “market”
September 3rd, 2008

I’m posting this entry using the just-released beta of Google Chrome, the new browser from search giants, Google, and I have to say, on first impressions, I’m pleasantly surprised by how good it is - it’s fast, was easy to install, is easy to use, and has a nice clean interface.

It’s practically identical to Firefox 3 in a lot of ways yet stands on it’s own (in a sort of Safari way - except better) in others - including its design - with the tabs neatly tucked into the titlebar and the address bar doubling (or is it ‘trebling’?) as a search entry box and bookmarks launcher. It’s quite tempting after using it for only about half an hour to switch over to it as my primary browser… but I’ll give it a while yet!

Also, as it seems pretty streamlined and lightweight, I wonder will we see a mobile phone version coming out soon…?

Definitely one to watch.

Yeah, I Want One of Those…

It’s exactly what it looks like - a 4 port USB hub in the shape of a cassette tape.

Nerdy I know, but…

Want!

Back in a bit…
August 28th, 2008

Okay, I’ve been away for a few days (went to visit my brother and his housemates in London) and now I’m having problems with my laptop (which I’m slowly sorting out) so I’ve been away from blogging for a short while and will be for a LITTLE bit longer. Took some nice photos in London,- I’ll probably post them.

In the meantime, here’s a video a friend’s sister showed me recently that made me laugh out loud… Achmed, the dead terrorist.
