Last night, on another packed radio show, the top ten was ‘top ten acts appearing at Oxegen 2006′ (It’s not sold out by the way…!). Now more acts had been announced since I drew up the list first thing on Thursday morning (full line-up can be seen here), so don’t blame me if your favourite group wasn’t there :p

  • 10. Primal Scream
  • 09. The Strokes
  • 08. Paul Weller
  • 07. Richard Ashcroft
  • 06. Arctic Monkeys
  • 05. Franz Ferdinand
  • 04. The Who
  • 03. James Brown
  • 02. Kaiser Chiefs
  • 01. Red Hot Chili Peppers

I played a track from each of them and one from the Go! Team, who were the “honourary mention” entry. The regular playlist (in the 2nd hour) included tracks from Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, local band the End again, a remix of Green Day, Oasis and Travis (called “Boulevard of Broken Songs”) and new songs from Rihanna (SOS Rescue Me), The Streets (When You Wasn’t Famous) and Rebecca Hart (White Lie), who has told me by email the good news that she plans on coming back and touring Ireland again soon. Good stuff.

I also had the usual features on the show - the gig guide, celebrity news, and a bit of comedy - the comedy this week being two trolls from Dublin talking about a trip to “Norn Iron” and taking the piss out of the accents up there (ooh, controversial…). The clip is called “durdelurdelurdelurdelur” and can be heard here. I played it with the theme tune from ‘The Archers’ in the background. Oh yes.

No live band this week either - which was disappointing. I was trying to line up a live phone interview with members of ‘the End again’ who were gigging in the Spirit Store last night, but couldn’t get through to them (..guess they were still sound-checkin’) so I just played a clip of an interview with their lead singer from back in January.

Comedy and live music… that reminds me… must get Jinx Lennon into studio for one of the shows. He’s one of Dundalk’s best (and weirdest) live acts, with hilarious sing-a-long songs like "Get the guards", and his show is quite an experience (so I’m told… it’s an experience I’ve yet to have) …
