There’s been a lot of speculation recently about Dundalk FM on the infamous “El Paso Times” (Dundalk Blog) site, most specifically regarding Harry Lee and the fact that he’s no longer on the air. A couple of posts have mentioned me by name, claiming that I’m “being groomed” by the manager of the station and I’m “the managers pet”. As nothing could be further from the truth, I felt the need to reply to the comments, and the following is what I said (including a quote at the top of what I was replying to):

Hi… Niall O’Keeffe here. Two F’s in O’Keeffe. Thanks. I resist replying to these things generally, but as I’m personally mentioned here, I thought I might as well say my bit. I research, produce and present one two hour show every week, (on Friday nights) and to be honest, it’s about all I have time for, personally, at the moment. I do try to help out as much as I can in the station as I have a keen interest in radio, and I like helping out on what is basically a community service. It’s called “having a conscience” and “being helpful”… You may have heard of it. I don’t get paid for it, you know… and I’m basically a blowin to the town, not being from Dundalk originally but having moved here just over a year ago. I LIKE Dunadlk and I’m happy to help out! Simple as that… If more LOCAL people even OFFERED to help out in the station as much as I and other volunteers do, instead of bitching about us on a web site, that’d be kinda nice. Anyway, I certainly wouldn’t call myself anyone’s “pet” and my employers have absolutely nothing to do with my show any more (Harvey Norman aren’t sponsoring any shows or prizes on Dundalk FM and haven’t done so in about 5 months now. It was nice when they did, but your information is slightly out of date there… Go figure!). Contrary to the comments of “anonymous”, I’m not looking for and won’t be taking any extended or new slots on the station any time soon as I simply don’t have the time to do any more right now. Why doesn’t Mr. Anonymous himself sign up to the course here and create some original programming himself? The majority of Dundalk FM 100 presenters, producers and researchers (etc.) give their time for free. I happen to think that what we produce and broadcast is a bloody good testament to our efforts and a great service that the people of Dundalk generally appreciate and enjoy. Niall O’Keeffe |

Hey Niall, great comments on the El Paso blog, I cant believe some of the crap that is being posted but it definitely proves that some very up set members of staff are bitch and its horrible, I just keep my head down, and hope that I wont be reporting on the station in the news. Chat soon
