I was just putting together a playlist for this Friday nights radio show and I thought “feck it, I’ll throw in Lordi’s ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ for the craic” (the winner of this years Eurovision Song Contest). Then I wondered whether Mr. Lordi had ever been pictured without the mask… and lo and behold, he has:

Lordi without the mask

An article in the Malta Star proclaims:

there is one man who created havoc because someone decided to force him out of his mask. Do you know Tomi Putaansuu? No? Well, he is also known as Mr Lordi, leader of the band that rocked the Eurovision arena and left off with the highest number of points. A few days ago, a magazine decided to publish Mr Lordi without his mask and make up. Finland literally rocked. A 200,000 petition was collected in protest against the magazine for going against Mr Lord’s wish. Putaansuu had never appeared in public without his “Mr Lordi” image.

Lordi fans also tried to organize a mass public protest march outside the magazine’s office. Yet, it was a bit of an embarrassment as only about three Lordi fans turned up. It was not expected. In fact, there were around 20 police officers and an equal amount of journalists waiting for the much publicised protest!

Ah well, I thought it was funny… and I’m chucking the song into the show anyway. Also featured will be Gnarls Barkley, Nina Simone, Franz Ferdinand doing an unusual cover version, Beatfreakz, classics from Haddaway and the Shamen, and hopefully some stuff from the new Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pearl Jam albums.
