Yes, Safari is now available on Windows, but since it came out (version 3.0 beta) a security hole was found and it’s now at version 3.0.1 beta. Surely there’ll be more exploits found yet, but still – you can download it here, now. If you downloaded it on release day, download it again and reinstall it now… From what I’ve seen, it’s still the fastest out there!
Here’s Steve on YouTube announcing it back at the WWDC:
Via CivilianTarget (of Boards.ie ‘fame’), here’s a list of ten great Podge & Rodge expressions (probably not all suitable for the kids, eh?). Some arse-breakingly funny stuff!
Finding searching hard going? Not quite finding what you’re looking for? Dumb Little Man has some very handy (albeit common sense to a lot of us) tips for googling more efficiently. Also on Google – there is now face recognition in Google image search, as Pandia.com reports. Basically, if you do an image search and then add &imgtype=face to the URL in the browser’s address bar, your search will be further broken down to present the results that look like faces only. Yikes!
I’ve moved to a new job – meaning that yes, I’ve left these guys (pretty poor web site, isn’t it?) – and I’m now working in the 3 Store in Dundalk and it got me thinking about mobile broadband and it’s uses.
An interesting development for 3G mobile users is that YouTube Mobile, a streamlined version of YouTube made to run on any mobile phones capable of viewing RTSP/3GP files with H263/AMR, has now gone live. When you first go to YouTube Mobile, you’re greeted with a warning that says you may want to upgrade to an unlimited data plan before using the service. Not a bad idea. Right now there’s only a limited number of videos available on the mobile service , but while they’re improving it, why not try out TinyTube or orb to view the full library of YouTube videos on your phone!
Also, Damien is wondering if Irish mobile operators block VoIP. Well, speaking for my current employers (mobile phone network ‘3′), no. Despite Vodafone apparently not liking Skype, ICQ, Windows Messenger, and more, 3 are bringing out phones (their ‘X-Series’ range – already available in the UK) that have Skype and Slingbox capabilities – to name but two – built in – and every phone available from 3 stores now comes with a Windows Live Messenger installer – and it’s free to use. I’m not bothering with the X-Series phones myself, but I AM looking forward to getting my new Sony Ericsson K800i that this boards.ie thread convinced me to go for.
