To mark the upcoming 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Amnesty International have made it their New Year’s Resolution to have the declaration document available to everyone in Ireland by the end of 2008, making sure everyone knows their rights. (My own personal resolutions are to give up smoking and cut down on junk food but more on that later…)
According to their press release:
Ballast House on Aston Quay in Dublin will be lit up with a giant candle motif over the next few days (30th,31st,1st) to highlight Amnesty International’s New Year’s resolution for 2008 - to have the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) available to everyone in the Republic of Ireland by the end of the year.
Noeleen Hartigan, Programmes Director for Amnesty International Irish Section, said: “Next December will mark the 60th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of this landmark document in the global struggle for human rights. Amnesty International is launching a campaign to ensure that everyone in the country will have access to a copy of the declaration by then.”
