This is a fox. He’s on fire. “Whoosh!”… if you like.

Mind you, he can’t be enjoying that….

This week a new world record was set by over 8 million people… not for setting foxes on fire, but for all downloading the same application to their computers within the one 24 hour period - that application being the hotly anticipated Firefox 3.

(Frankly, I never understood, at the time, where exactly they got the name Firefox from… it was originally called “Phoenix”, and then “Firebird” - which made sense, as it was a sort-of phoenix from the flames;- a rebirth of the browser… but some people complained, notably Phoenix Software and the Firebird Free Database Software project people, so “Firefox” it became and remained. It’s certainly unique anyway…) [More history here].

Killing some time, wandering around the net… Figured out that some time in the middle of August (the 16th or 17th, I believe) this year, I will hit the magical number of 1 billion seconds of age. It’s all downhill from there, you know… (yeah…) Anyway… find out stuff about how old you are at DayOfBirth.co.uk.

While you’re at it, why not see if you share your birthday with anyone famous at FamousBirthdays.com. I share mine with Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado, Lucy Liu and Gianni Versace. Oh joy!

Time, as we all know, waits for no man, heals all wounds- and is not something anyone should waste… so go read a book or something… ‘cos just like time, great literature can be free too! You don’t even have to turn off your computer!

The fastest way to go up a hill? Zig-zag! … who knew, eh?

● Is this the bus of the future?

● I know Mulley’s an Elmo doll fan but would he be an less so if he knew that one of them recently threatened to kill a Florida toddler?

● The European Commission don’t trust Microsoft - well there’s a shock.

● Now that Blu-Ray has won the format wars (thanks, Toshiba! Glad I got a PS3 now!) it looks like the HD-DVD add-on for the XBox 360 is due to drop to 50 bucks.

Google in your brain - good idea/bad idea?

● Unless we can change the orbit of the Earth, we’re all screwed… well… in 7.6 billion years that is!

OSAlt - find open source alternatives to a huge range of commercial software packages. Nice idea.

The trailer for the new Star Trek movie - supposedly, this is the Irish page - shouldn’t it really say “St. Stephen’s Day” and not “Boxing Day”..?

● A personal problem was looking like stopping me from taking to the airwaves tonight, but no… tonight’s show IS LIVE, and back with a bang. I’m doing the “Top Ten Songs that mention ‘Music’ in the Title”. Barrell. Bottom. Scraping. I know!

Akismet has been acting up a bit for me on a few blogs lately - looking into Spam Bam as a potential replacement.

● With International Delete Your Myspace Account being only five days away, the BBC report on just how hard it is to leave the site behind. Oh, and they’re also telling us not to talk on our mobiles just before going to bed.

● So, Rick O’Shea’s first album purchase was one by Bruce Willis? And Damien Mulley’s was one by Guns N’Roses? Wouldn’t worry … mine was either “The Simpsons Sing the Blues” (featuring “Do The Bartman”!) or MC Hammer’s “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em“. Can’t remember for sure…

● Speaking of “Do The Bartman”, here it is:

Ahhh… nostalgia-tastic! Didn’t Michael Jackson actually write that song? My favourite bit is from 03:09 to 03:20…

● By the way - YouTube Mobile has now been expanded so that you can watch any YouTube video on your mobile for free (network charges/mobile broadband tarriff may apply, naturally…). THANKS GOOGLE! (..’bout time!)

● A Windows screensaver that updates itself with info from your social networking buddies? Nice idea, Chirp!

Twenty’s Celeb Name Post is still thundering along… most recently, I’ve added these ‘Rick O’Shea’ suggestions. Enjoy!
