I’ve been listening to classic episodes of the ground-breaking BBC comedy radio show from the 50’s and 60’s, The Goon Show - and, while I’m not old enough to have heard it the first time around, I remembered listening to it back in the early 90’s when it was played again on RTÉ Radio… and I was a huge fan of it (along with Scrap Saturday).

A lot of people don’t seem to realise the absolute importance of a show like this - the Goons (Spike Milligan - the man who looks a lot like my uncle, and who threw himself so much into creating and writing the show, he had a nervous breakdown, Peter Sellers - the man for whom the words ‘versatile comedy genius’ were first strung together, and the literally irrepressible shouty little man, Harry Secombe) having been one of the first and greatest radio comedies of all time (still!) and one of the biggest influences on more modern comedians such as the Monty Python crew, Eddie Izzard and Billy Connolly.

(We don’t really use miles or gallons here any more - all kilometres and litres… not that miles and gallons don’t make sense to us, of course…)

Found this interesting, in passing…

33.5 miles per gallon

My body is definitely in better shape than my car (or “that immovable lump outside my mechanic friend’s house” as I know it at the moment) right now, but I didn’t think it was THAT good… and I was truthful with my answers! (well, mostly - put myself down as a non-smoker with a moderate diet - I only gave up smoking recently, and I still enjoy the odd curry-chip…)

How many MPG does your body get?

Now, I’m off to watch Top Gear… Playing football and having a few beers while watching wrestling on telly later… what a manly day Monday is…

Right now, I’m suffering slightly from a bad/painful infection which has my left eye all swollen, red and sore and has me using eye drops and wearing shades. I’m pissed off, irritable and cranky. I like this picture though - and I agree with the words.

Yeah, I know… this is lazy blogging… but still - saw it, liked it, decided to blog it:

Clever stuff. A bit ‘Being John Malkovich’-ey.
