Ah the sandwich board… ideal place for witty outbursts. This really got the punters piling in, in our local pub (which I’m manager of) recently…

Well no, not really, - but the one that got a laugh is a picture I don’t have to hand.

It originally advertised that we were showing the RUSSIA -VS- SPAIN match on the big screen, but some smartarse vandal with a piece of chalk changed the R in RUSSIA to a P, changed the IA to a Y, then changed the -VS- to -IN- and rubbed off the S in SPAIN… so it looked like we were advertising some class of porno show. The sandwich board was sitting outside (with the title you can figure out for yourself!) for a couple of hours before I realised it.

Naturally, some of the regulars snapped that sign with their camera phones… must get one of them to send it to me.

I know I only posted about McDonalds recently, but this is only indirectly about them.

It’s mostly about the fun, entertaining and talent filled LineRider.com who have created an animated commercial for McDonalds. Nice to see some recognition for a talented innovator (Boštjan Cadež, a Slovenian university student) - and nice to see him get paid for doing something he loves (… *sigh!*).

Here’s the ad, which is showing on US television, with the backing track being classic rock track “Hocus Pocus” by Focus :

Two ads on TV at the moment feature characters from Gerry Anderson’s classic 1960’s “supermarionation” TV series, Thunderbirds

This first one, for Specsavers, features Virgil wearing specs that automatically adjust to sunlight, helping him to evade capture more easily…

…while this one has Brains performing an elaborate and impressive dance to Snap’s classic track “Rhythm is a Dancer” to sell energy drink “Drench”…

These aren’t the first ads to feature Thunderbirds, mind you… there’s Thunderbird 1 interrupting a pleasant swim, the time when Virgil was just ‘having a break’, and that time when Lady Penelope did her own driving to name but a few…

What’s next? Parker selling Pens? Oh, wait a sec…

Saw this ad on Facebook this afternoon and thought it was clever - once I realised it was an ad.

At first I thought it was a link to a Facebook group celebrating Brian Cowen’s ascent to power, but its actually an ad for property in Offaly… har har…

Wonder if they’ll be the only/last ones to harness BIFFO power to “peddle their wares”…

PS… the ad links to this site.
