Howdy America… what’s the craic? Doing well? Good stuff… Okay, first off… this is your day… Happy Independence Day! You’ve been free from British rule for 232 years… go you! Don’t get TOO drunk now… (of course, for most of you, that means four beers)… Secondly… Forget Obama, Forget McCain… here’s the guy you want to vote for to replace George W. Bush with! Yeah… it’s Zaphod Beeblebrox! He’s a real switched-on hoopy frood who knows where his towel is… AND… he has an inspirational and uplifting campaing song…

… and yes, that’s good old Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy on the vocals!

I’d usually grab a few beers on a Monday night and watch WWE Raw (seriously… now that I’ve no girlfriend/life/etc. - why the hell not!?) but I missed it this week, when it featured “Hillary Clinton” and “Barack Obama”. Thank god for YouTube, hah?

First off, the ‘invitation’. The WWE ‘cordially invited’ the two Democratic Party candidates to settle their differences in the ring:

Then there was the build-up - with video messages from the real “Hillrod”, Barack Obama, and a special appearance from John McCain:

Then, at the actual event, the (really REALLY bad) impersonators ‘get it on’, with “Clinton” using Hulk Hogan’s moves and “Obama” taking on the persona of “The Rock“…

Oh and “Bill” was there too. Loved the bit where he said “Whoa! No, no… I did not… have illegal contact… with that candidate”, after knocking ‘Obama’ to the mat.

Oh, and you Americans out there, don’t forget to “smack down” your vote. Yes.

According to this video (and, of course, LEGEND), 26 years ago, Fianna Fáil set up an illegal radio station (Election Radio ‘82) in order to promote themselves in that years February Election. On the station they promised to legislate for legal community radio licensing should they win the election - a promise they subsequently broke once elected.
