● Don’t forget… International Delete your Myspace Account Day is just over a week away!

● Well known and respected actor Heath Ledger - best known for his roles in ‘A Knights Tale’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain’ looked like having a very bright and promising future. He’ll soon be seen in the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight”. Sadly, he was found dead today in Manhattan. Here are some reports from RTÉ, BBC and CNN. You can google the rest. It’s also on Boards.ie (here and here) and Karl Hungus has a brief report here.

● Seen the “Tom Cruse on Tom Cruise, Scientologist” video? Laughed? Then you’ll love the parody.

● The Wall Street Journal reports that Disney is to launch mobile phone service in Japan, specifically targeting women.

Via DownloadSquad:- Now you can get free CD & DVD burning software for your computer - support for BluRay and HD-DVD included!

● Gotta tune in to this - The Fanny Waters Show (via Damien) on Newstalk tomorrow morning. Hope someone records it! Best of luck, Fergal!

● Are Creme Eggs getting smaller or does Donncha just have huge hands?

● Vera Duckworth died a few days ago after 33 years on Coronation Street. She went peacefully in her sleep, of heart failure. She’s only a character in a TV show. She’s got over 600 friends on her new bebo page and nearly 400 members in her facebook group. Not bad, eh? (If you’re in the UK - or have a UK IP address - you can watch her best moments and her final moments here).

● Finally, … and JESUS!… I know we took the piss out of Lorcan Malone, but I didn’t know that THIS EXISTED.

Here’s the trailer:

We took the piss (as promised) out of Lorcan Malone (the Blackrock kid who was on MTV’s Super Sweet 16 recently) live on the show tonight.

We read out comments from Twenty Major, and others who’d voiced their disgust on YouTube. Frankly the whole thing was pretty hilarious (…for us in the studio, anyway…).

The whole thing is already up on the Audio Archive on the Wall of Sound site as a podcast, or you can have a listen here:

We also did the Top Ten Girl Groups of All Time, and poked fun at Tom Cruise (that’s also on the audio archive…)

Nice. :)

mtvlogo.jpgMTV UK came to Ireland recently to film the show “My Super Sweet 16” for a kid named Lorcan Malone from Blackrock in Co. Louth.

The show really gave the worst possible image of Dundalk to the world - making Lorcan himself out to be a spoiled little shit and the kids of the town to be mindless zombies who were all too happy to come dressed in white to his winter themed shindig (which ‘Eurodance’ muppets Cascada performed at) - although it was still somehow, strangely enough, pretty good exposure for the Marshes Shopping Centre - who not only hosted his invitation ceremony but paid his family a couple of grand to stage it there, Silence Night Club (who hosted the party itself) and Tony O’Donnell Menswear - in the run up to Christmas ‘07.

I was actually there myself at the time in the Marshes when the whole joke of an invitation ceremony took place - I was passing by on my way to Burger King for my lunch break in work (I was working in the 3 Store in the Marshes at the time) when he abseiled down from the roof and started calling out the names of the “lucky” invitees - and it was a pretty surreal (and frankly ridiculous) event.

For a moment or two, it made me feel a bit “old” and “out of touch” but then I thought no, maybe it’s these kids that are “out of touch” - and yes, it also made me wonder about MTV and their responsibility for how the younger generation have grown and changed. Apparently, the TV network footed the bill for the party in Silence including the appearance fee for Cascada.

Damn sure, me and my mates never expected (or got!) any of this when we turned sixteen and damn right we were too.

Anyway, enough of the “back in my day…” rubbish - this is just the way it is now, I guess. The whole thing can be seen here on MTV Overdrive (thanks to Anthony for the link) and frankly it’s pretty hilarious.

lorcan.jpgGoing by the comments on the two YouTube videos (here and here) of Cascada performing at the party, and the comments on the entry on Jim Carroll’s blog, a lot of people feel disgusted and embarrassed by the whole thing and wish it (and he) would just go away.

Can’t say I blame them.
